Shot Show Day 1: A Hunter’s Perspective on the Premier Firearms and Outdoor Industry Event
The buzz of anticipation was thick in the air as the doors to Shot Show 2025 swung open in Las Vegas this morning. For hunting and outdoor enthusiasts, this event is nothing short of Christmas morning—a sprawling showcase of the latest innovations, gear, and technologies in the shooting, hunting, and outdoor industries. Walking into the massive exhibit hall feels like stepping into a hunter’s dream.
First Impressions
The layout this year is impressive, with exhibitors from around the world covering everything from precision optics, ammo and firearms to tactical gear and hunting apparel. My first stop? The “New Product Center,” where manufacturers put their latest creations on full display. As someone who spends a significant portion of my life teaching others about hunting, butchering, and cooking wild game, I keen to see what’s new in the field-to-table space.
Gear Highlights
Standouts from the next-generation thermal scopes to new red dots.
The knife selection was also noteworthy. Brands are increasingly focusing on multipurpose tools, which is a win for those of us who appreciate functional gear that can handle both field dressing and kitchen prep.
Walking around we walked past rows and rows new technology. Tomorrow we will get more in-depth with new products. Today was just a day to get the lay of the land and figure out who we want to visit.
Firearms and Ammunition
Firearms always steal the show, and this year is no exception. Several manufacturers are focusing on creating rifles optimized for hunters who venture into rugged, remote terrain. Lightweight materials and modular designs dominated the scene. Ammo companies also impressed with advancements in non-lead projectiles, a trend driven by conservation efforts and legal shifts in many states. Nosler was showcasing their new Whitetail Country and their new Suppressors.
The Field-to-Plate Connection
I couldn’t help but notice companies are leaning into the “field-to-plate” movement. From portable vacuum sealers to innovative meat grinders, knives and dehydrators, brands are acknowledging that hunters want to take full control of their harvest—from the hunt to the kitchen table. This focus aligns perfectly with what I teach in my hands-on classes, and it’s encouraging to see the industry supporting this approach.
The People
As much as Shot Show is about gear, it’s also about people. Walking the aisles, I bumped into fellow hunters, gun guys and gear experts, each with their unique perspective on the industry. Networking at events like this always reinvigorates my passion for what I do. Sharing stories and ideas reminds me of the incredible community we have in the outdoor world.
Final Thoughts
Day one of Shot Show 2025 has been an inspiring whirlwind of innovation, camaraderie, and excitement for what’s to come. With three more days to explore, I’m looking forward to diving deeper into the trends shaping our industry and discovering how these advancements can enhance the hunting experience—both in the field and at the table.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s highlights, where I’ll cover more innovations and dive into new products. If you’re here, I’d love to connect—let’s talk hunting, gear, or maybe even trade recipes! And if you’re following from home, feel free to reach out with questions or comments. Until then, happy hunting!
